HOSS/Marathon to South Bend for Friday night Fury

Why does it always seem that when the temperatures go up, the action gets closer?  How about the HOSS/Marathon pavement kings with wings racing three quarter mile tracks in a row just as the air conditioning starts to go out?

After lighting up the night at New Paris Speedway last Saturday, the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series presented by Marathon travels to South Bend Motor Speedway Friday for the first of two shows there within the next four weeks.  This Friday night’s challenge is a good test for everyone before heading to Rockford (IL) Speedway next weekend for the first ever winged sprint car event in Rockford.  South Bend is a mainstay of the HOSS schedule and is home to a number of the HOSS teams. Friday’s show lets many of them stretch a race into an otherwise open weekend.  Leading the number from the South Bend will be Ron Koehler.  The 2001-2002 series champ is second in points this season just twelve behind leader Greg Wheeler.  From nearby Mishawaka, John Witter will be defending his win at the speedway last year.  Eighth in points and maintaining a steady course through the summer has kept Witter’s blue number 28 Shafer Gearworks, Bi-County Trailer Sales, Just Neon, Quick Time Racing Apparel entry in the 2004 Championship hunt.

South Bend Motor Speedway is a great Friday night out for the family.  The weekly racing event is top notch always has a packed pit area full of the best looking racecars from the Michiana area and beyond.  This weekend’s HOSS event, along with their August 6 return event, is just one more reason to make the hop to South Bend Motor Speedway.

The pit gate opens at 4:30, with hot laps at 6, qualifying at 7, and Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series racing at 8pm.  All times Central.
