HOSS Rockets into Action Saturday at Mansfield

By Scott Stine.  The Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series presented by Marathon will be back in action at the spectacular Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio Saturday night June 26.  The HOSS pavement kings with wings always run a feverish pace around the half mile speed plant and with near perfect weather expected, Don Townsend’s Miracle Moment qualifying record of 13.56 seconds is in serious jeopardy!  Laps under 14 seconds are standard practice and the qualifying times are always super close together across the board.  The top shelf facilities at Mansfield and the entire HOSS 2004 schedule give fans the greatest shows of season when the winged sprint cars come to town.  Be on the lookout as the new HOSS t-shirts are on sale for 2004 as well.  The shirts are printed on both sides with the back designed for driver autographs!!!

Mansfield hosts the HOSS three times in 2004, with dates of Friday August 13 and Saturday September 11 still to come.   In 2003, Doug Berryman scored his first 410 victory for Bruce Rebman with the most incredible slide and slash pass Mansfield’s turns one and two have ever seen!  This year fans will enjoy new grandstands around the track putting everyone in the position to witness the indescribable speeds and unbelievable sounds of  the fastest cars  ever unleashed.   2003 Points Champion Denny England overcame a broken wing panel to take Mansfield money and brilliantly described for the fans, while standing in Victory Lane, how he had to adjust to the damage and get the win.  Dave Baumgartner also brought home a win for his car owner, the legendary Benny Rapp of Toledo.  The white 14 was on rails as Baumgartner engineered a decisive win in 2003’s final event.

The 2004 HOSS season has already seen great racing action despite the woeful weather.  The lid lifter at Salem went thirty green after the restart but saw a dominant Hud Cone expire midway through as the charging Greg Wheeler scored his first HOSS hardware with Rick Baker and Danny Williams, Jr. in tow..  Plymouth Speedway ’s feature went 40 green without any cautions as 2003 Champ England returned to his familiar spot in Victory lane.   The race pace was set by Doug Berryman who was overhauled in tight racing traffic and would finish second.    Finishing well on both occasions has been Sondi Eden of Crawfordsville, Indiana.  The 2003 NAMARS midget champ has procured a  position in the Isenouer/Batts number 6 Dynamite.  Her strong fourth place effort at Salem was the first race ever for a female sprint car racer.  Her 13th at Plymouth was indicative of the battle every HOSS racer will face in 2004

The racing is always worth the drive to Mansfield and this Saturday’s times are: Pit gates open 12:00, hot laps at 1:30, qualifying at 4:30 and Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series racing at 7:00 Remember, all times are EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME!
