Madison International Speedway to Host HOSS Hotshoes
Madison International Speedway in Oregon, Wisconsin, is preparing for the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series visit to the half mile asphalt track this Saturday, August 28. The pavement kings with wings are winding down the 2004 points championship chase and Saturday’s race is the only asphalt winged sprint car event of the year in Wisconsin. Point leader Greg Wheeler in the red and white number seven machine is trying to wrap up his first HOSS championship by putting more room between himself and Ron Koehler in the standings. Koehler, of South Bend, Indiana, is the 2001-2002 points champ and knows what it takes to gain his third title.
The HOSS Rookie of the Year battle is even closer with just five points separating Michael Tarlton and Sondi Eden. Tarlton’s number nine racecar has been steadily gaining momentum through the summer. Eden charged to a fourth place finish in the yellow number six at the season opener in Salem, Indiana, and has many top ten performances as well. She finished fifth last Saturday at Anderson’s (IN) tight quarter mile facility. Look for big things from both drivers this season and beyond.
Also making the big move in points is Jimmy McCune. The Ohio veteran has risen to sixteenth in points despite running a limited schedule in 2004. McCune bested the field early this summer in Mansfield (OH), as well as rewriting track records at Mansfield (13.340) and Anderson (10.444). Madison could very well be the next chapter in McCune’s record book. Look for him in the scarlet and white 19.
