HOSS ready for Anderson Showdown Saturday
The Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series returns to Anderson Speedway Saturday night for the Chappy’s Rent-to-Own night of racing. Point leader Greg Wheeler (Swanson 7) has been holding on to the Championship point lead over the last few weeks but there are two names charging through the standings. Joe Rebman and Doug Berryman have made a good living with the pavement kings with wings this summer. Currently third and fourth in points, the pair have accounted for three HOSS wins and a fist full of top three finishes.
Last year’s HOSS event at Anderson was won by Denny England, the 2003 HOSS points Champ. Jimmy McCune was fast in the Marv Carman Farms entry but had to come through the pack after an early incident. The biggest surprise was a wreck in turn one midway through the 40 lap feature which collected multiple season point contenders!
Anderson Speedway is a tight quarter mile asphalt track but corner speed and closing speeds give this track high marks for intensity and excitement. The 10.673 second track and quarter mile world record (England) could be in jeopardy if weather conditions are favorable. Be sure to get to the speedway early to get the chance to catch history Saturday night.
The HOSS Rookie of the Year battle is coming down to a tooth and nail affair between Michael Tarlton (9) and Sondi Eden (Batts 6). The two drivers are separated by just nine points in the standings. Eden, however, is already a 2004 Champ having wrapped up the USAC Speedrome Series crown Wednesday night in Indianapolis. Don’t look for this battle to cool anytime soon. Both teams are committed to their drivers‘ success and have been contenders every week of the year.
