Wheeler Takes The Win at Salem
The Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series made our first appearance at Salem Speedway Saturday night with three different leaders for the feature. After a first lap mishap, that saw Hank Lower and Rookie Dale Woods go to the pits, there was a complete restart and the feature was run in 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Rick Baker led the first ten laps with Hud Cone in the #99 coming up from a 6th starting position to take over the lead until mechanical problems took him out on lap 20, Baker took over the lead again until lap 25, when Greg Wheeler in the #7 passed him on the backstretch and brought home the win. He was followed by Baker, Danny Williams, Jr., Sondi Eden, and Ron Koehler to round out the top five.
Danny Williams, Jr. in the #81 was fast qualifier and took home the Indy RV Center Trophy. Julian Construction Hard Charger Trophy went to Jerry Caryer in the 75C who improved by six positions. The Suspension Spring Specialist Awards went to John Witter and Tom Paterson. The top three in heat one was #37 Hank Lower, Angola, IN, #4B Rick Baker, Camby, IN, #81 Danny Williams, Jr., Indianapolis, IN. The second heat top three were #99 Hud Cone, #10 Ron Koehler, South Bend, IN, #6 Sondi Eden. In the third heat it was #7 Greg Wheeler, Columbia City, IN, #28 John Witter, Mishawaka, IN, and #38 Ted McKibben, Indianapolis, IN.
