SPRINT CAR CHAMPION CALVIN GILSTRAP
TO BE REMEMBERED ON SATURDAY, MAY 17
SALEM, IN, April 29 – Salem native and sprint car champion, Calvin Gilstrap, will be remembered on Saturday night, May 17th at Salem Speedway, as the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series returns to the high banks for the Scott County Visitors Commission Calvin Gilstrap Classic, presented by Stewart Automotive & Transmission.
Gilstrap, an avid racer for over 30 years, made his mark on the dirt-tracks of Southern Indiana, battling the likes of Bob Kinser, Dick Gaines, Butch Wilkerson, Roy Robbins and others. He won multiple championships and numerous races before losing his life in a racing accident at Bloomington Speedway during the 1976 season. He was 48 years old.
The personable Gilstrap, who was a fan favorite at many tracks, ventured off the dirt on occasion to race at his hometown Salem Speedway in USAC and ASA sprint car competition.
Sharing the high banks with the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series on May 17th will be the Lucas Oil Super Stocks, Dave & Deb’s Winner’s Circle Street Stocks and McDonald’s Front-Wheel-Drive Stocks.
Spectator gates open at 3:30 p.m., with practice at 4:00, qualifications at 5:30 and the first race at 7 p.m. (EDT).

Ted McKibben

Theodore A "Ted" McKibben of Indianapolis, IN, died May 4, 2008 at Batesville Healthcare in Batesville, Arkansas . Born in Topeka, KS on January 21, 1945 he was the son of Ted Hall and Amy McKibben.
He was a musician for many years playing with artists such as : The Grand Ole Opry House Band, Keith Whitley, Eddie Rabbit and Waylon Jennings to name a few, he was a master electrician for National Construction Workers (NCW) in Indianapolis, IN., and drove for the Hoosiers Outlaw Sprint Series 410 Winged pavement, sprint car #38, where he placed 13th in the 2007 points standing. He was a member of Eagle Dale Baptist Church of Indianapolis, IN.
Survivors include one son, Rick McKibben of Pleasant Plains,AR, two daughters, Rhonda Graham of Batesville, AR and Amy McKibben of Cincinnati, OH. Seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and his dog Cody.
He is preceded in death by his fiance Debra (Pye) Pate of Moorehead, MS. And his parents.
A graveside memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Alderbrook Cemetery in Desha, AR. with Bro. Kenneth Altom &Billy Wayne Scroggins officiating. Arrangements are by Willis Funeral Service of Batesville, AR
